Kutcher Tops Forbes' List Of Highest Paid TV Actors

(Reuters) - When Ashton Kutcher replaced Charlie Sheen on the hit comedy "Two And a Half Men", he also took his place as television's highest-paid actor, according to Forbes' annual survey released on Wednesday.
Forbes estimated Kutcher earned $24 million from May 2011 to May 2012, while Sheen, now starring in "Anger Management" on cable television following a very public firing from the hit CBS show, didn't even make the top 10.
Sheen's $40 million a year ago however easily out-earned Kutcher by some $16 million. Steve Carell, also in the top 10 last year with $15 million before he left "The Office," was also nowhere to be found this year.
Earnings runners-up included "House" star Hugh Laurie and Ray Romano of now-canceled "Men of a Certain Age," with $18 million each.
Other highly compensated actors in the top 10 list included Emmy winner Alec Baldwin of "30 Rock," "Last Man Standing" star Tim Allen, "Men" co-star Jon Cryer and "The Big Bang Theory"'s Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki.
Forbes said its estimates did not include deductions for manager and agent fees, or "the other costs of being a celebrity."

Obama's Vision In His Own Words

Mount Vernon, Ia. – Facing criticism from Republicans and the media that he hasn’t offered a specific vision to support his reelection, President Barack Obama on Wednesday detailed his second-term plans, reiterated his first-term successes and warned of a turn backwards should GOP nominee Mitt Romney be elected.

The comments came during a rally at Cornell College here, his first public appearance following the second presidential debate Tuesday night in New York.

Century Fox Exclusive: Obama-Romney second round of Debate, as it happened.

What follows are Obama’s comments in all three areas: his vision, his view of Romney’s proposals, and the accomplishments he’s had in office.

OBAMA’S VISION:
MIDDLE CLASS

“You cannot grow this economy from the top down. You grow this economy from the middle class out.”

OUTSOURCE FEWER JOBS

“I’ve got a plan to grow the economy, to create jobs and build more security for middle class families. I talked about it last night. I want to export more products, outsource fewer jobs. We can give tax breaks to companies that are shipping jobs overseas or we can give those tax breaks to companies that are investing right here in Iowa, right here in the United States of America.”

ENERGY

“I want to control more of our own energy.”

“We have doubled the amount of renewable energy that we generate from wind and solar and biofuels.”

“Today the United States of America is less dependent on foreign oil than any time in the last two decades.

“The question is whether we build on the progress for the new energy sources for the future.”

“I’m not going to keep on giving corporate taxpayer-funded welfare to oil companies, $4 billion a year, when we can be using that money to continue to promote wind and solar.”

EDUCATION

“I want to give more Americans a chance to get a great education and get the skills they need to compete for the 21st century. I tried to talk about education last night. We kept on getting waylaid.”

“We could gut education to pay for Gov. Romney’s $5 trillion tax cut or we could recruit 100,000 new math and science teachers over the next decade.”

INFRASTRUCTURE REBUILDING

“The 4th part of the plan is use some of the money saving from ending wars in Iraq and winding down war in Afghanistan to pay down our deficit, put people back to work, including our veterans, rebuilding roads and bridges all across America.”

DEFICIT REDUCTION

“Finally, I want to cut the deficit by $4 trillion over the next 10 years and I’ve worked with Republicans and Democrats already to cut a trillion dollars worth of spending. I’m ready to cut more spending that is not contributing to our growth. But we can’t just cut our way to prosperity. We’ve got to make investments in science, research and infrastructure.”

CRITIQUING ROMNEY:

ROMNEY HAS ONLY A ONE-POINT PLAN.

“As I pointed out last night, as you guys heard for yourself, it’s really a one-point plan. It says folks at the very top play by their own set of rules. That’s why they can pay lower taxes than you. Or they can use off-shore accounts. Or they can invest in a company, bankrupt it, fire the workers, take away the pensions, ship the jobs overseas and still make money doing it. It’s the one point that says it’s OK for Wall Street to keep engaging in the reckless behavior that got us into the mess we’ve been fighting back from for the last four years. … It’s the same philosophy that we saw in the previous administration and I have seen too much pain and too much struggle to let this country go down that same road again.”

ROMNEY WANTS A TAX CUT THAT FAVORS THE WEALTHY.

Romney “tried to sell us his $5 trillion tax cut that favors the wealthy. Once again he refused to tell you how he’s going to pay for it. He said he’d let you know after the election. Now, here’s a tip . Usually when a politician tells you he’s going to wait until after the election to explain the plan to you, they don’t have a pleasant surprise in store for you,” he said to laughs.

Just about everybody who’s looked at the $5 trillion tax cut has said it would either blow a hole in the deficit or raise taxes on middle class families, he said. “It can’t be done.”

ROMNEY’S JOBS PLAN DOESN’T ADD UP.

“So let’s recap what we learned last night. His tax plan doesn’t add up. His jobs plan doesn’t create jobs. His deficit reduction plan adds to the deficit. So Iowa, you know, everybody here’s heard of the New Deal. You’ve heard of the Fair Deal. You’ve heard of the square deal. Mitt Romney’s trying to sell you a sketchy deal. We’ve tried that. We’re not going back. We’re moving forward. That’s why I need your vote.”

ROMNEY ON EDUCATION

“Gov. Romney says hiring more teachers won’t grow our economy over four year. But you know what? Yes it will.”

ROMNEY ON WOMEN’S ISSUES

“When Gov. Romney was asked about it, his campaign said we’ll get back to you. That shouldn’t be a complicated question. Equal pay for equal work. I want my daughters paid just like somebody’s else’s sons are paid for the same job.”

Obama also said of Romney’s stance on women’s issues, “Gov. Romney didn’t want to talk last night about how he wants to end funding for Planned Parenthood, how he supports turning over certain decisions about women’s health care to their employers.”

“I don’t think your boss should control the health care that you get. I don’t think insurers should control the health care you get. And I certainly don’t think politicians should control the health care that you get.”

ROMNEY ON TAXES AND SPENDING

“Gov. Romney was asked, is it fair that he pays a lower tax rate than a teacher who makes $50,000 and he said, yeah, I think it’s fair, I think that’s how you grow an economy. He’s wrong.”

“I’m not going to ask middle-class families to give up their deductions for owning a home or raising their kids or sending their kids to college just to pay for another millionaire’s tax cut.”

“I’m not going to ask the students here to pay more for college so I have more money in my pocket. I don’t need it. I’m not going to kick children out of Head Start programs or eliminate health care for millions of Americans who are poor or elderly and disabled.”

All Romney has offered to reduce the deficit, Obama said, is eliminating funding for Planned Parenthood, getting “rid of Big Bird” and ending production tax credits for wind energy.

“It adds up to less one 100th of 1 percent of the federal budget – now that was an estimate, by the way. I was doing that off the top of my head.”

ROMNEY ON IMMIGRANTS AND GAYS

“We have heard this pitch before. You know where we heard it? In the previous administration. We know it doesn’t work. We know what we’re talking about does create jobs. And now the change is up to you.”

“You can choose to turn back the clock 50 years for women and for immigrants and for gays and for lesbians or you can stand up and say we want to move forward.”

OBAMA TOUTS FIRST-TERM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Iran And Turkey Join Syria Peace Envoy

Beirut, Lebanon — Iran declared support on Wednesday for the new Syria peace envoy’s cease-fire proposal, joining Turkey in a rare moment of accord between two of the regional powers backing opposite sides in the 19-month conflict that has pitted the Syrian government against an array of armed opponents.
But the Syrian government expressed skepticism that rebels would honor a cease-fire, and the peace envoy,Lakhdar Brahimi, who represents both the United Nations and the Arab League, said a temporary halt to the fighting would constitute only a tiny step toward resolving the conflict, which has left more than 20,000 people dead.
A veteran Algerian statesman who has been on the job for less than two months, Mr. Brahimi has spent the last several days conferring with Middle East leaders about ways to break the Syria impasse. His predecessor, Kofi Annan, resigned in frustration at the end of August after his proposed peace plan slipped into seeming irrelevance.
On Monday, Mr. Brahimi proposed a cease-fire during the three-day Muslim holiday of Id al-Adha, which begins Oct. 26, hoping that a religious reprieve universally respected by Muslims could be the basis not only for a pause in the fighting but perhaps the beginnings of a dialogue in Syria.
Sunni Muslims constitute most of the Syrian population and virtually the entire insurgency, while President Bashar al-Assad is a member of the ruling Alawite sect, a Shiite offshoot. The country is home to a variety of other religious minorities, including a significant Christian population.
Both Turkey and Iran publicly endorsed Mr. Brahimi’s effort on Wednesday. Those endorsements were significant because Iran is the most influential regional supporter of Mr. Assad’s, while Turkey supports Mr. Assad’s armed adversaries, is host to more than 100,000 Syrian refugees and has repeatedly called on Mr. Assad to resign.
In the past few weeks Turkey also has banned Syrian aircraft, moved armed forces close to its 550-mile border with Syria and engaged Syrian gunners in sporadic cross-border shelling, raising fears that the conflict in Syria could turn into a regional war.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, who met this week with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey at a regional summit meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, was quoted by Iran’s state-run news media on Wednesday as saying he supported the Syria truce proposal and “any group that derives power through war and means to continue war has no future.”
The Turkish foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, was quoted by the semiofficial Anatolian News Agency of Turkey as saying a holiday cease-fire was desirable but that any longer-term truce would require “certain measures for its sustainability.”
Mr. Brahimi, who was visiting Lebanon on Wednesday, called on the Syrian government to back the cease-fire, saying he had guarantees from rebel leaders that they would observe it if the government acted first. But a Syrian government newspaper expressed doubt that insurgent units, who lack a unified command, would or could simultaneously uphold a cease-fire.
In Damascus, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Jihad Makdessi, said in a statement released by the official Syrian Arab News Agency that his government would welcome any “constructive initiative” from Mr. Brahimi, who was widely expected to travel to Syria.
But the very modesty of Mr. Brahimi’s proposal seemed to be an indication that in recent months the conflict has drifted further from resolution. Random responses from ordinary Syrians reached by telephone seemed to reflect a similar assessment.
A resident in the embattled northern city of Aleppo, who gave only a nickname, Abu al-Hassan, said he believed neither side was willing to stop shooting. “What does this even mean?” he asked. “That instead of 40 martyrs we will have 20 martyrs a day?”
A Syrian businessman based in Damascus said Mr. Brahimi’s efforts would be better spent persuading the Syrian authorities to release the thousands of people arrested or abducted by pro-government militias during the conflict. “We got used to the gunfire — no need to cease it — but we will never get used to the absence of the detained and kidnapped people,” he said.

Orange Juice Makes You More Beautiful

Orange juice makes you look more beautiful

A daily glass of orange juice can help improve your skin, hair and nails, say a panel of health and beauty experts.

They attribute the benefits to the vitamin C,potassium and folic acid it contains. Vitamin C is essential in the production of collagen, along with super nutrient Lutein.

Its yellow pigment is linked to reducing sun-induced skin damage and is believed to improve elasticity of the skin.

A 200ml glass of orange typically contains 60mg vitamin C and equates to 100 per cent of an adult's recommended daily amount.

"The adage of 'you are what you eat' is not a new one but science has lagged behind in determining the effect nutrition has on our skin, hair and nails," the Mirror quoted nutritionist Amanda Ursell as saying.

Century Fox Lifestyle: Tips to slow down ageing.

"Beauty experts are starting to see the benefits of a glass of this nutrient packed product, realising it isn't just what you put on your body but what you put into it too," she added.

The research was undertaken with 200 beauty industry workers who are members of CEW (Cosmetic Executive Women).

Two thirds of beauty professionals (65 per cent) said they recommend clients to drink a glass a day as part of their current beauty routine.

Susan Mahy, board director at Cosmetic Executive Women UK, said: "The essential nutrients you need for healthy skin, hair and nails are most beneficial when ingested as part of your diet.

"Our panel of executive women in the cosmetic, fragrance and hairdressing industries concluded that they have a direct effect on the skin," Mahy added

Does Penis Size Matter To Women?

Women who have frequent vaginal orgasms are likelier than other women to say they climax more easily with men with larger penises, according to a new study.

Women who tend to prefer penile-vaginal intercourse over other types of sex also say the same, it said.

"Male anxiety about penis size may not reflect internalized, culturally arbitrary masculine stereotypes, but an accurate appreciation that size matters to many women — just as men feel legitimate anxiety when they enter the mating market about their intelligence, personality traits, sense of humor, social status, height, wealth, and other traits known to be favored by women across cultures," the Huffington Post quoted study researcher Stuart Brody, a psychologist at the University of the West of Scotland, as telling LiveScience.

But other researchers were less convinced.

Women who orgasm through vaginal stimulation may indeed prefer longer penises, but not everyone prefers to orgasm that way, said Barry Komisaruk, who researches female sexual response at Rutgers University, told LiveScience.

Century Fox Lifestyle: Why women seem to be more happy after oral sex or unprotected sex?

But some researchers argue that vaginal stimulation is simply activating a different, internal, section of the clitoris. Women report different sensations from vaginal and clitoral orgasms, Komisaruk said, but which one women prefer largely comes down to personal preference.

In some cases, female orgasm is even more complex. For example, Beverly Whipple, professor emerita at Rutgers University and one of the discoverers of the G spot, a sensitive area felt through the front wall of the vagina, has found that women with complete spinal cord injuries can sometimes experience orgasm, even though the nerves that carry sensation up the spinal cord from the pelvis have been severed.

It's likely that the sensory vagus nerve, which runs in the abdomen but bypasses the spinal cord, is recruited to carry signals to the brain in these cases, Whipple told LiveScience.

In the new study, Brody and his colleagues asked 323 women, mostly Scottish university students, to recall past sexual encounters. They were asked about their recent sexual behaviors as well as how important penile-vaginal intercourse and other sex acts were to them. They were also asked whether penis length influenced their ability to orgasm with vaginal stimulation.

Defining "average" as the length of a 20-pound banknote or U.S. dollar bill, which are 5.8 inches (14.9 cm) and 6.1 inches (15.5 cm) long, respectively, the researchers asked women if they were more likely to orgasm vaginally with a longer-than-average or shorter-than-average penis.

They found that 160 of the women experienced vaginal-only orgasms and had enough sexual partners to compare size experiences. Of these, 33.8 per cent preferred longer-than-average penises, 60 per cent said size made no difference and 6.3 per cent said longer was less pleasurable than shorter.

Supporting the hypothesis that size matters, Brody and his colleagues found the women who reported the highest number of vaginal orgasms in the past month were most likely to say that longer was better.

"This might be due at least in part to greater ability of a longer penis to stimulate the entire length of the vagina, and the cervix," Brody said.

The data supports Brody's claim, Whipple said, but the sample is limited to Scottish university students and should be replicated with a broader group. Nevertheless, she warned against worrying about the findings in bed.

Mahindra And Mahindra Launches 'Rexton'

SsangYong Rexton set to outdo its competition without breaking into sweat
SsangYong Rexton set to outdo its competition without breaking into sweat

The Indian premium Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment just got more exciting with the addition of a brand new product coming from the stables of Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Limited and its South Korean subsidiary SsangYong Motor Company called Rexton.
The SsangYong Rexton marked its presence on the Indian turf on October 17, 2012 and the company has introduced two models of its new SUV in the Indian market, under the namesakes - RX5 and RX7. The base model Rexton RX5 and the top model Rexton RX7 carry a price tag of Rs. 17.67 lacs and Rs. 19.67 lacs, respectively with all prices corresponding to the ex-showrooms of Mumbai.
Prior to its launch, the Rexton SUV had already generated an immense buzz in the Indian market with many domestic enthusiasts eyeing the latest M&M-SsangYong offering as their next-to-be vehicle. The 2012 SsangYong Rexton competes against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero SFX, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Hyundai Santa Fe. Accordingly, some intense competition can be expected between the Rexton and its contemporaries in the Indian premium SUV scene.
The 2012 SsangYong Rexton RX5 incorporates a 2.7 litre RX270 XDi diesel motor, which churns out a peak power-torque output of 162 bhp and 340 Nm, respectively. Interestingly, the top end variant Rexton RX7 comes fitted with a refined 2.7 litre RX270 XVT engine under its hood that delivers out a whopping power-torque equation of 184 bhp and 402 Nm, in the order of their mention. Further, the Rexton RX7 underlines its power and performance quotient by effortlessly racing to a top speed of 194 kmph. The ARAI certified mileage ratings of the SsangYong Rexton RX5 and RX7 are 12.4 and 11.18 km per litre, respectively.
The Toyota Fortuner is the current champion and market leader in the country. The premium SUV from the Japanese auto giant instantly dominated the market upon its arrival and has set an important benchmark in terms of an overall impact of a single vehicle. The Fortuner comes assimilated with a 3.0 litre, 2982 cc, diesel motor that churns out a maximum power of 168 bhp and a peak torque of 343 Nm.
Evidently, the Rexton RX5 and RX7 can pose a stiff competition to the Fortuner and it is going to be interesting to see a major territorial dispute in the Indian premium SUV market. The Japanese auto maker retails its Fortuner SUV in the country within the price range close to Rs. 21-23 lacs in the Indian auto market, which proves to be nothing but inferior to the aggressive pricing of the SsangYong Rexton.
The Ford Endeavour has been another fawned upon premium SUV in the country with many Indian admirers of the brand getting awestruck with the car's macho built and gorgeous looks. The Endeavour comes trimmed with a 3.0 litre, 2953 cc Duratorq TDCi diesel powertrain that puts out a peak power delivery of 155 bhp and a maximum torque of 380 Nm.
The power-mill incorporated under the hood of the Ford Endeavour also features a state-of-the-art fuel injection system coupled with a five speed manual transmission gearbox. The American auto major has offers the Endeavour within a price tag close to Rs. 18-21 lacs and considering its below par engine performance and a stiff pricing, it can be said with certainty that SsangYong Rexton beats all its competition with a big margin in the country.

China's Economy: A Report

China's mammoth economy slowed for a seventh straight quarter in July-September, missing the government's target for the first time since the depths of the global financial crisis.
However, other data released on Thursday pointed to a year-end rebound.
The National Bureau of Statistics said GDP grew 7.4 percent in the third quarter from a year earlier - in line with forecasts from economists polled - the first miss of the official target since the first quarter of 2009's 6.5 percent.
Industrial production, retail sales and investment data were all slightly ahead of forecasts, however, and quarter-on-quarter GDP growth was strong, suggesting the worst may be over and the world's No.2 economy will pick up in the final quarter - as a once-a-decade leadership transition gets under way in Beijing.
Growth this quarter should be back above 8 percent, said Kevin Lai, an economist at Daiwa, in Hong Kong. The worst should be over. We are seeing better numbers in industrial production and retail sales.
Riskier assets reacted positively, with Asian shares outside Japan rising to a 7-month high, while the Australian dollar, sensitive to Chinese demand for industrial commodities, touched its highest in two weeks.
While GDP growth at 7.4 percent would be cause for joy in recession-stalked developed economies, it represents a sharp slowdown for China, where GDP grew 9.2 percent in 2011 and has averaged an annual rate near 10 percent for three decades.
Fixed-asset investment rose 20.5 percent in January-September from a year earlier, ahead of the 20.2 percent consensus forecast, although still down from around 25 percent seen for most of last year.
Consumption also quickened, with retail sales in September expanding by 14.2 percent year-on-year, ahead of the 13.2 percent forecast, which would have been unchanged from August.
Growth in factory output came in at 9.2 percent, slightly ahead of both the 9.0 percent forecast and August's 8.9 percent.
Real estate investment, which affects more than 40 other sectors from cement and steel to furniture, rose 15.4 percent in the first nine months of 2012 from a year earlier, slowing from an annual increase of 15.6 percent in January-August.
The September data indicates economic momentum has picked up strongly compared with July and August, said Zhang Zhiwei, chief China economist at Nomura in Hong Kong.
New project investment picked up further in September, indicating infrastructure investment will continue to rise in coming months. This data set helps reinforce our view that growth will rebound visibly in Q4.
GROWTH TARGET
The government targets growth of 7.5 percent for the full year - reduced in 2012 from the previous 8 percent target - and the consensus forecast of economists polled is that it will deliver on it, with an expansion of 7.7 percent.
Indeed, Premier Wen Jiabao was quoted by local media as saying on Wednesday that the economic situation in the third quarter was relatively good, and the government was confident of achieving its goal.
But the remorseless slowdown has confounded forecasters repeatedly this year, with the initial consensus call for growth to bottom in the first quarter being persistently beaten back to its present position of a trough in the third quarter followed by a mild uptick in the fourth quarter.
Some analysts cite electricity usage growth running at roughly half the average rate of the last five years as a manifest sign of economic malaise.
Others disagree. They say there is clear evidence that the financial system's liquidity taps have been opened wide and that fine-tuning policies - Beijing's mantra for a year now - are gaining traction.
The fine tuning includes two interest rate cuts, three cuts to the proportion of deposits banks must keep as reserves - freeing an estimated 1.2 trillion yuan ($190 billion) for lending - and approvals in the last month for infrastructure projects worth about $157 billion, although Beijing has not said explicitly where the money to fund them is coming from.

FBI Arrests Bangladeshi Man For New York Bomb Plot

New York: The FBI on Wednesday arrested a Bangladeshi man in a sting operation on charges he attempted to blow up the New York Federal Reserve Bank with what he believed was a 1,000-pound (450-kg) bomb, federal authorities said.
Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, 21, faces charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al Qaeda, the US Department of Justice said in a statement. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
The FBI said the public was not in danger because the explosives provided to Nafis were never in working condition and the suspect was closely monitored by the undercover agent – highlighting a script law enforcement has employed several times this year in similar cases, including one in Washington and another in Ohio.
“Attempting to destroy a landmark building and kill or maim untold numbers of innocent bystanders is about as serious as the imagination can conjure,” said Mary Galligan, FBI acting assistant director-in-charge. “The defendant faces appropriately severe consequences.”
In an initial appearance in federal court in Brooklyn on Wednesday, Nafis wore a plain brown crew-neck T-shirt, dark-coloured jeans and sneakers. He barely spoke during the brief hearing, mumbling answers of “yes” to questions from U.S. Magistrate Judge Roanne Mann.
According to the criminal complaint, Nafis travelled to the United States in January 2012. Once in New York, he claimed to be in contact with al Qaeda members overseas, although federal agents found no evidence that he was working for al Qaeda or that he was directed by the organization, according to a U.S. official who declined to be named.
Nafis considered several targets for his attack, including the New York Stock Exchange and high-ranking government official, who the source identified as President Barack Obama.
In the end, Nafis decided to focus on the Federal Reserve Bank in lower Manhattan, according to the criminal complaint. To create a cell to help him carry out the bombing, Nafis began to seek out recruits, eventually bringing on board an undercover agent working for the FBI.
The two met on Wednesday morning and travelled by van to a New York warehouse, where Nafis assembled what he thought was a 1,000 pound bomb, before driving to the Federal Reserve bank, among the most secure and guarded buildings in Manhattan.
A couple of blocks from Wall Street, the bank stands like a limestone and sandstone fortress, sitting atop what is believed to be one of the world’s largest stockpiles of gold.
After parking near the bank, Nafis walked to a nearby hotel and recorded a video statement in which he said, “We will not stop until we attain victory or martyrdom,” according to the FBI.
Nafis was arrested in the hotel as he repeatedly attempted to detonate the inert bomb, the FBI said.
Other FBI sting operations this year have netted American and foreign suspects.
In February, a 29-year-old Moroccan man was arrested near the U.S. Capitol wearing a vest he believed was full of al Qaeda-supplied explosives, and charged in an attempted suicide bombing of Congress.
Five self-described anarchists in the Cleveland area were arrested in May and accused of plotting to blow up a four-lane highway bridge. An undercover FBI agent had sold the men inoperable detonators and plastic explosives.
